Victims, suspect in Sunset Beach stabbing incident were family, HPD said

HALEIWA, Hawaii -- Honolulu police are investigating a stabbing on O’ahu’s north shore that sent three people to the hospital

A captain with the Honolulu Police Department says the incident involved four family members who HPD believes live in the same home together. Something happened that caused one of those family members to assault the three other family members.

Authorities say officers responded to a call around 8 a.m. on Tuesday for medical assistance at a home on Wehiwa Way. When they arrived they found three family members with slash wounds.

Two had to be transported to the hospital in serious condition. Those two have only been identified as a 24-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman. The third victim, a 50-year-old man, suffered only minor injuries.

The suspect — a 28-year-old man who police say is another family member — did not appear to have any wounds but was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The reason was not disclosed.

One neighbor told KITV4 they heard what sounded like a fight Monday night, followed by screams. HPD says it is still investigating what prompted the suspect assault his family.

Three charges of second-degree assault have been filed against the suspect, police said. Neither the suspect not the victims have been identified.
