Puna man accused of assaulting two police officers

HAWAII COUNTY, Hawaii -- A Puna man has been charged with three counts of first-degree assault against a police officer.

Police say 40-year-old Robin Chun Nakapaahu allegedly attacked two police officers, then tried to steal a weapon from one of them. The incident took place on Friday, Nov. 5, in Orchidland on the Big Island.

Nakapaahu is charged with attempted theft, criminal trespassing, resisting arrest, and three counts of assault on an officer. Investigators say Nakapaahu was out of custody on an unrelated felony incident at the time of his arrest.

Nakapaahu was scheduled to make his initial court appearance on Monday. He is being held in jail on a $57,000 bond.
