It's that time of year to get your Christmas tree, and you can get the perfect one while also supporting a good cause.

Good Morning Hawaii sat down with Habilitat for a Q&A to discuss their annual fundraiser.

Q: Can you explain to our viewers more on what Habilitat is and what they're doing this holiday season?

A: Throughout the month of December, Habilitat will host its 42nd Annual Christmas Tree Fundraiser. Our amazing Habilitat members will be selling Christmas trees at five locations around Oahu from 12pm-9pm daily.
•Habilitat is one of the nation's foremost long-term addiction treatment center located in Kaneohe.
•Instead of the "traditional" 12-step plan to addressing drug addiction, residents are empowered to find success through vocational training in fields such as landscaping and construction. As they go through the program, not only are residents given a newfound sense of self-worth with their job training, but are also able to give back and become a gainfully employed member of the community. As a result, we have one of the highest success rates in the U.S. today.

Q: As our viewers visit your locations to shop for Christmas trees, can you provide any tips on how they can select the perfect Christmas tree?

A: Know what you want: Keep in mind that each tree species is a little different. The four types of trees that Habilitat will offer for sale include Douglas Fir, Noble Fir, Grand Fir and Nordmann Fir.
•Keep measurements in mind: Before you leave to visit one of our locations, measure your ceiling height and the height of your Christmas tree stand. This can help you avoid picking out a tree that is too tall for your home. more information on Habilitat, please visit www.habilitat.com/. Q: We heard about the amazing partnership between Habilitat and Bruce Bucky and Parents Inc. Can you share with our viewers more on how they are helping families in need this holiday season?

A: Private benefactor and philanthropist Bruce Bucky and Parents inc. will be partnering with Habilitat on December 14th to help families in need this holiday season. Bruce Bucky will be donating 75 Christmas trees to families in need on Oahu, and Parents inc. has combined their Adopt-A-Family program with the families housing at IHS.
•This amazing event will take place on December 14th from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm at Maemae Elementary School with exciting entertainment by Mike Izon and The City Boys.

Q: Where can our viewers shop for Habilitat's Christmas trees to support the 42nd annual Christmas tree fundraiser?

A: We will be selling Christmas trees at five locations around Oahu from 12 p.m.-9 p.m. daily. Wednesday we are at one of our locations which is Central Union Church. We will also be selling Christmas trees at Stadium Mall (next to Ice Palace), Kapolei (500 Kamokila Blvd., by the old Kmart), Kaneohe Bay Shopping Center (fronting Safeway) and Koko Marina Center (fronting Taco Bell).

Q: After our viewers bring home their perfect Christmas trees, what tips could you share on decorating and styling it for the holidays?

A: Start with lights: It is difficult to add lights to a tree after putting on the ornaments. I advise you to start at your tree's trunk and work your way up. For a more polished look, wrap the lights around the tree closer to the trunk when moving up, and arrange the lights further out on the branches when making your way down.
Design around a theme: A beautiful Christmas tree usually has a central look that ties in all its decorations together. Before shopping for decorations, try to keep a theme in mind. You can find many different ornament sets that come pre-packaged with different shapes, sizes, and finishes that already have an overall theme.

Q: How do the proceeds from the tree sales help Habilitat?

A: Proceeds from all Christmas tree sales directly benefit Habiltat's programs, which work to empower its participants to overcome problems with substance abuse and homelessness. When you purchase a Christmas tree, you help a member by supporting their scholarship into the program.

Q: What types of programs do you folks offer at Habilitat?

A: We have a diverse set of amazing programs at Habilitat. We give residents the option to work in industries relating to food services, masonry, landscaping, carpentry, telemarking, and administration and information technology.
•Residents are empowered to find success through vocational training in fields such as landscaping and construction. As they go through the program, not only are residents given a newfound sense of self-worth with their job training, but are also able to give back and become a gainfully employed member of the community.

Q: As we begin shopping for a Christmas tree, can you provide our viewers with some tips on how to maintain the freshness of their Christmas tree?

A: Start Fresh: Don't wait until the last minute to shop for a tree. When selecting a tree, avoid purchasing those with browning or un-sturdy needles. To check if the needles are loose, shake or run a branch with your hand.
•Keep your tree in water: Place the tree in a stand that will hold at least a gallon of water. The key is to keep the bottom 2-inches of the trunk in water and refilling the stand daily.
•Keep your room cool: Christmas trees keep its freshness better in cooler temperatures. We recommend placing your tree close to a window or an air conditioner.
