Family of man slashed with machete sues Maui mall
On Maui, the family of a man killed at the Queen Kaahumanu Shopping Center last March has filed a lawsuit against the mall.
Last month, Kumulipo Sylva was found guilty of slashing Eduardo Cerezo's throat with a machete in a second floor restroom.
Court documents show neither security guards nor employees at the mall intervened, or called police. A bus driver also alerted the mall that Sylva had a machete.
The Cerezo family is suing the shopping center for negligence, assault, and wrongful death.
