The University of Hawaii Women's Basketball team opened the 2019-2020 season with a win over San Diego State Tuesday night at the Stan Sheriff Center by a score of 61-58.

In a gritty opening night, UH led by just two points at halftime. It was a game that saw fifteen lead changes and was tied a dozen times.

Amy Atwell led the Rainbow Wahine with a career high 17 points and eleven rebounds. Lauren Rewers pitched in with a double-double performance as well. The 6'4" center from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho finished with 16 points and ten boards.

Hawaii shot 37.9 percent from the field against the Aztecs and went 6-31 from beyond the arc.

This is the first time since the 2015-2016 season the Rainbow Wahine have opened the year with a victory.

Next for Hawaii, first road trip of the season to California for games against Loyola Marymount (11/13) and Pepperdine (11/15).
