A 31-year-old man was arrested Friday morning after a witness saw him set his own car on fire while he was still inside.

The suspect was sitting in the driver's side of the car parked at the Honolulu Harbor, near Hawaii Pacific University.

The witness saw the man pour an unknown liquid from a gasoline can into the backseat.  He then used a lighter to set the car on fire.

The Hawaii Department of Transportation  Harbors Division with the assistance of Harbor Police, Honolulu Fire Department and Honolulu Police Department worked to extinguish a fully engulfed vehicle fire.

The suspect fled on foot but with the help of the witness, he was located by patrol officers and arrested without incident.
