Kahuku wind farm opponents arrested during blockade in Kalaeloa
Police arrested 22 people for disobedience to a police officer after they attempted block large wind turbines and construction equipment from leaving the AES facility in Kalaeloa.
It happened overnight Thursday. The facility is owned by AES -- the company that's planning to build the Na Pua Makana wind farm project.
The community already has wind turbines, but AES has the permits to build eight more that are 570 feet tall.
Those opposed to the project are concerned about the environmental and health impacts to the small north shore community.
The equipment and turbines from Kalaeloa are being transported to Kahuku. A large group of protesters could be seen ready to block that from happening.
This is a developing story, more details to come as they surface.
