Maui receives $300K to help prevent wildfires
After the recent brush fires, Maui received a $300,000 grant to help prevent another blaze from starting.
According to Maui News, the Maui Nui Marine Resource Council will use the funds to cut down brush that fuels fires, and to protect the Pohakea watershed above Maalaea.
The funding comes from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and the Wells Fargo Foundation.
This year brushfires have burned thousands of acres on Maui -- the most recent fire in Maalaea last week burned through a total 4,600 acres.
