Wednesday morning around 2:46 a.m., a fiery crash on Farringon Hwy west of Old Fort Weaver Road resulted in the death of two passengers and a dog within the vehicle.

A pickup truck was traveling eastbound along the highway at a high rate of speed when it veered off into the westbound lane, and drove over the curb and collided head on into a viaduct pillar.

The vehicle then was engulfed in flames. Once the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) extinguished the fire, two bodies were found badly burnt in the driver and passenger seats. The identities of those involved are undetermined at this time.

Speed appears to be a contributing factors. However, it is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were also contributing factors.

The investigation is ongoing.

According the the Honolulu Police Department, this was the 39th and 40th traffic fatality of this year.?
