Kalaeloa could be the future home to Oahu's first motorsports complex in more than 13 years.

"Circuit Hawaii" is a privately-funded project that would be built on 50 acres of land next to the Kalaeloa Airport.

Developers released their plan on Wednesday September 25 for the drag strip, road course, and dirt racing tracks.

There are also plans to create go-cart tracks for the youth.

Although the state has explored creating a race track on Oahu before, this one is different, because it does not call for taxpayer funds.

"We are in the perfect location for this. We have the Asia Pacific to our west. We have the mainland to our east. We could do something amazing here while providing for our local community," Michael Kitchens of Build The Track said.

The facility could also host other events, however it would need to undergo a public comment period, and gain approval from the city.

If it does, developers estimate that construction would take about three years.
