The Department of Transportation will be removing concrete barriers at Laniakea Beach.

According to officials, the barriers are being stored along Kamehameha Highway but need to be moved for a shoreline survey.

The area has become popular with visitors looking for sea turtles, but it's also a safety concern for residents.

Last month a 10-year-old boy was hit by a car while crossing the road.

In the future, HDOT wants to move to Kamehameha Highway further mauka to allow parking along the beach, however that porject could take at least two years and cost up to $8 million.
