Maui wind farm wants to increase the cap of acceptable bat deaths
MAUI - The state and federal agencies are increasing the number of endangered bats a Maui wind farm is allowed to accidentally kill.
According to the Maui News, Auwahi Wind Energy in Kanaio want to increase the cap of acceptable bat deaths from 119 to 140. The company says when they first submitted a habitat conservation plan, it didn't know how many bats were in the area and it underestimated the population.
Environmentalists call the decision disappointing.
