Thousands expected to visit state's largest senior fair, the Young at Heart Expo
The state's largest senior fair takes place soon. The annual Young at Heart Expo attracts thousands of people over three days, looking for ways they can keep Aging Well.
"Aloooha! Himeni! Na mele o ta aina. Komo mai!" croons legendary island singer Danny Kaleikini for our cameras - a sample of how he plans to welcome people to the Young at Heart Expo. As its official "Ambassador," he says he's excited to be part of the senior event.
Kaleikini says, "I think it's good for the people, the local guys, to know what's happening because we're not getting younger!"
The three-day event sponsored by the Honolulu Star-Advertiser "will feature more than 300 booths for businesses and organizations catering to this lucrative market where most of our economy's discretionary spending is concentrated. Exhibitors will also interact with attendees through a broad range of seminars and qualified speakers. In addition, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser is unveiling a custom program publication and website making it even easier for attendees to locate and follow up with exhibitors while staying informed on the many activities taking place each day." said Gerald Shintaku, Director of Star Events.
More than 300 companies that cater to seniors will be there to promote the latest in health, financial and lifestyle products & services, like Medicare insurance agency Plan Advisors Hawaii.
Insurance agent Matthew Ragundo says, "It's the best place to reach out to seniors. They know about it. Once a year, they always come. It's our best way to reach out."
Plan Advisors Hawaii has had a booth there since 2004 and fields a lot of questions, like, "What does Medicare cover? What's available in Hawaii? What plan am I in? Am I in the right plan? Are my drugs covered?"
76-year-old Linda Wong will be going. "I'm looking forward to this Young at Heart Expo. Being older, you want to see what's out there, what products there are. 810
Entertainment includes KITV4's former anchor Jordan Segundo and of course, Kaleikini, who turns to the camera again to sing a goodbye. "E ano ai, na ohana, our family. Aloha kekahi i kekahi."
