HONOLULU - A group of local scuba divers are planning an underwater ocean clean-up in East Honolulu this Saturday.

The clean-up is being organized by the environmental group, Ocean Defenders Alliance (ODA) and Island Divers Hawai'i. Divers will scour the sea for marine debris and fishing lines near Spitting Caves, which is located about 3 miles outside Hawai’i Kai Harbor.

The area is a popular fishing spot, but Ocean Defenders Alliance says oftentimes, fishing lines get caught on rocks and coral.  ODA says it's been conducting underwater ocean clean-ups for the past three years. On a dive last month, ODA says the team removed over 4,000 feet of fishing line and 150 pounds of lead weights and other debris.
