This week, Maryknoll School is hosting a girls volleyball team from Shanghai, China for a unique first-time visit to Hawaii that includes cultural exchange and exhibition games.
"We really bond together. The first day we had a great lunch. It was just laughter in the room. It was amazing", said Pua Beazley a player on the Maryknoll girl's volleyball team and host.

Thirteen Fuxing High School students from China are staying in homestays with Maryknoll families as Maryknoll hosts them for joint practices, visits to the Pacific Aviation Museum and HPU, and ukulele and hula lessons.

It’s part of a new program at Maryknoll called Common Goal, which seeks to teach students about diplomacy through athletics. Despite tense U.S.-China relations, Common Goal teaches students that even when there are language and culture barriers, people can come together around a shared love of sports.
On Friday, Maryknoll, Fuxing, Le Jardin and Punahou will take part in a four team scrimmage at 9:00 a.m. at the Maryknoll Community Center.
