Jason Momoa: 'So sorry' he can't be on the Mauna as protests continue
Hundreds gathered at the base of Mauna Kea Monday morning to protest the construction of the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) -- but one Hollywood star wasn't able to make it. He instead sent his regards via Instagram.
Local boy turned box office star, Jason Momoa, posted a video of demonstrators from Monday's protest with the title 'We are still Maunakea.'
The caption of the post read, "I’m so sorry I can’t be there right now. My ohana needs me. I love u all I love my people it makes me sick to see what’s happening now on our Mauna."
Hundreds stood in front of the access road, others gathered at the State Capitol. Some activists even chained themselves to cattle guards at the base of Mauna Kea.
Demonstrators are expected to gather Tuesday and through the rest of the week as the beginning of TMT construction continues.
