The Honolulu Board of Water Supply increased the price of water Monday based on meter size.

Over the next five years customers will see gradual changes reflected on their bills.

The money will be used to maintain pipelines and to retrofit high-rise buildings with sprinkler systems.

The Board of Water Supply reports it is addressing concerns that single-family residents pay less than the actual cost of service, and multi unit dwellings pay more.

Before the rate increased BWS held five public hearings and made presentations at neighborhood boards.
