UPDATE: 6.12.19, 12:30 P.M.

A fire reignited in the Po‘ipu area, forcing officials to close Ala Kinoiki Road from Po‘ipu Road to Weliweli Road until further notice.

6.11.19, 9:30 P.M.:

Po'ipu Road has been reopened as of 9:15 p.m. Due to the reopening of the road, the American Red Cross shelter at the Koloa Neighborhood Center will close.

Ala Kinoiki Road will remain closed through the night while crews continue to monitor the area, and work on extinguishing the fire.

8:50 P.M.:

Officials have lifted the evacuation notice for residents located on Kipuka Street, connecting roads, and Weliweli Tract. Those roads have been reopened and residents may return to their homes.

A portion of Po'ipu Road, east of the Ala Kinoiki Road intersection, remains closed at this time. Additionally, Ala Kinoiki Road (from Po'ipu Road to Weliweli Road), will remain closed through the night as crews continue to work on extinguishing the fire.

8:11 P.M.:

As a safety precaution, residents located on Kipuka Street, including all connecting roads, Weliweli Tract, and the Po'ipu Kai condos have been evacuated due to a brush fire that broke out shortly before 3:45 p.m. Tuesday afternoon near the Maha'ulepu area.

There is no imminent threat to homes or structures at this time.

Due to the evacuation, the American Red Cross will open a shelter at 8:30 p.m. at the Koloa Neighborhood Center. Those who plan to go to the shelter should bring their own food, water, medicine, and any other items they may need while away from home.

Police have closed the following roads until further notice:

  • Ala Kinoiki Road, from Po'ipu Road to Weliweli Road;
  • Old Mill Road; and
  • Po'ipu Road, east of the Ala Kinoiki Road intersection.

Police and fire officials are urging people to stay clear of the area while crews continue to work on extinguishing the fire.

5:45 P.M.:

As a safety precaution, Kaua'i police are currently evacuating residents on Kipuka Street and Weliweli Tract, in Koloa.

Fire crews continue to respond to the fire that broke out near Mahaulepu Tuesday afternoon.

Kaua'i firefighters are currently battling a brush fire in the Mahaulepu area. 

No structures are threatened at this time.

Kaua'i police have closed Ala Kinoiki Road from Poipu Road to Weliweli Road and Old Mill Road.

Drivers are advised to avoid the area.
