HONOLULU - High bacteria counts at two Kaua'i watersheds are not caused by human of animal waste, according to a new study released by the Department of Health (DOH).

The study tracked fecal bacteria levels using the PhyloChip -- a microbial tracking tool.

Officials were not able to determine the source of the bacteria, but say it may have something to do with the tests used in past years.

The study says water in the surrounding areas do not pose a threat to swimmers, but says health officials will continue their tests.
