Maui County's budget is now in the hands of Mayor Michael Victorino.

The Council passed the $823 million budget by majority vote Tuesday, it is $42 million more than what the mayor requested.

According to Budget Chair Keani Rawlins-Fernandez while it calls for an increase in property taxes, it also supports construction of more housing, improving roads and infrastructure and preparing for the impacts of climate change and sea level rise.

The budget also sets aside funds for a youth center and a skate park on Lana'i.
