Walmart and Sam's Club are inviting shoppers around the state to help fight hunger in their local community.

"Fight Hunger. Spark Change." is the newest campaign from Hawaii Foodbank, Feeding America, and it runs through May 20.

According to Feeding America, one in six children in Hawaii struggles with hunger.

Residents can join the fight against hunger at their local Walmart and Sam's Club by:

  1. Purchase a participating item in-store or online
  2. Donate in-store at check-out
  3. Donate on Feeding America's website

“The proceeds generated from this campaign will help us to continue providing food assistance more than 1 in 8 Hawaii residents every day. Our partnering organizations such as Hawaii Foodbank Kauai Branch, Maui Food Bank and The Food Basket on Hawaii Island will also benefit from the generous donations of Walmart and Sam’s Club shoppers in order to meet the need across the neighbor islands,” said Ron Mizutani, President and CEO of Hawaii Foodbank.

Walmart donated $3 million to Feeding America and member food banks, including Hawaii Foodbank -- kickstarting the campaign.

Purchasing one of the 267 participating items helps secure the equivalent of one meal.
