HONOLULU - Honolulu Police Wednesday charged one of its own with abuse.

46-year-old Darren Cachola is charged with misdemeanor abuse of a household member and two counts of harassment.

As we first reported Tuesday night, the 23-year veteran of the force was arrested Tuesday afternoon.

His bail is set at $1,500, he is assigned to the Pearl City district.

According to HPD, his police powers have been removed as criminal and administrative investigations are conducted.

HPD Chief Susan Ballard issued a statement Wednesday saying in part, "We expect our officers to be positive examples for the community, both on and off duty, and are disappointed with the allegations regarding this officer's conduct."

In 2014 Cachola was caught on this surveillance video fighting with his former girlfriend inside a Waipahu restaurant.

The couple claimed it was horseplay and a grand jury refused to indict him.

Cachola was taken off the force after the incident, but got his job back last year after the State of Hawaii Police Officers Union fought to get him reinstated with back pay.
