HONOLULU – An explosive offensive output and a strong pitching performance lifted the University of Hawaii baseball team to a 13-6 victory over UC Davis in Sunday afternoon at Les Murakami Stadium in Big West play. The win helps UH take the series over the Aggies, 2-1.

Hawaii (13-17, 3-3 Big West) racked up 15 hits, including seven for extra bases to get by UC Davis (10-14, 3-3 Big West). The 13 runs are the second most for the Rainbow Warriors this season – second only to the 15 from the March 24 win over Ohio State.

Four UH hitters secured multi-hit games headlined by a 5-for-5 effort with three doubles and four runs scored for Daylen Calicdan. The five hits for Calicdan were one off the school record for hits in a game of six set by Michael Dartt at Air Force on April 8, 1999. His three doubles ties a UH record for doubles in a game. The feat was last accomplished by Evan Simny versus Wisconsin-Milwaukee on March 18, 2007.

Also at the plate on Sunday, Tyler Murray was a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBIs, while Dallas Duarte finished 2-for-4 with 4 RBIs and Tyler Best went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

On the mound, starting pitcher Logan Pouelsen earned his second victory of the season, going 6.2 innings and allowing three runs on eight hits with three strikeouts. Colin Ashworth recorded the final out of the seventh, and Dylan Thomas pitched a scoreless eighth. Dominic DeMiero closed the game in the ninth.

Eight different UH batters came to the plate as part of a busy second inning. Brennen Hancock, who roped a one-out single, came around to score on a Murray RBI single for a 1-0 UH advantage. A bases loaded walk by Scotty Scott brought home Calicdan for a 2-0 edge, and a throwing error by UC Davis allowed Murray to score for a 3-0 lead.

The Aggies made it 3-2 with runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Rainbow Warriors began to distance themselves from the Aggies with three runs for a 6-2 edge. The inning was highlighted by four-consecutive doubles coming off the bats of Calidcan, Duarte, Murray and Best.

After a UC Davis run in the top of the seventh, the 'Bows added five runs of their own in the bottom of the inning – all on RBI singles from Duarte, Best, Scott and Maaki Yamazaki for an 11-3 lead.

In the eighth, Calicdan knocked an RBI double and Duarte hit a sacrifice fly to cap the scoring for the 'Bows. The Aggies scored three runs in the ninth, but it was not enough.

UH is now 18-10 in the all-time series versus UC Davis.

The Rainbow Warriors will hit the road to face UC Riverside for a three-game series with games scheduled for Friday, April 12 – Sunday, April 14.
