Search for body floating in waters in North Kohala called off
A bystander witnessed the shark submerge the body and it was no longer visible.
At about 11:00 Sunday morning, Hawaii County Fire Department responded to a possible body floating in the waters just north west of Hanaula Gulch.
The location of the body was about 30 yards out from a rocky point down a cliff.
The Chopper form Waiakea Rescue Station arrived on scene and observed what appeared to be a large tiger shark circling the body.
The attempts to recover the body was unsuccessful due to the position of the body.
A bystander witnessed the shark pull down the body and it was no longer visible.
The Rescue Chopper continued to do an aerial search but saw no signs of the body.
The search was called off at about 3:00 Sunday afternoon.
The victim's identity is withheld pending the notification of next of kin.
