KAAAWA, Hawaii - A medical examiner can confirmed the cause of death of the 64-year-old woman, Maria Davis, and 5-year-old boy that died after being rescued in waters off Ka'a'awa last week, was due to drowning.

Honolulu fire officials say the woman was kayaking with three children when their kayak flipped over about 150 yards off shore of of Puakenikeni Road and Kamehameha Highway.

The two individuals were treated with advanced life support, but fire officials and witnesses said a good Samaritan first rescued the boy and brought him to shore. 

The two other children were not injured.
