The University of Hawaii softball team (20-9, 1-0 Big West) opened Big West play in 2019 with a 4-1 win over Long Beach State (13-17, 0-1 BWC) on Friday at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

Hawaii starting pitcher Brittany Hitchock worked the complete game, striking out four 49er batters.

The Rainbow Wahine drew first blood in the bottom of the second inning.  Heather Cameron knocked an RBI single to bring across Cheeks Ramos.  Then in the third inning, Hawaii tacked on another run off an Alyssa Sojka sacrifice-fly to left.  Mikaela Gandia-Mak scored in the fourth off a walk, and Brittnee Rossi served as the final run of the game off a Sissy Pantastico sacrifice-fly.

The win snapped Hawaii's four-game losing skid to LBSU that dated back to May 12, 2017.

The Beach and Rainbow Wahine will play a double-header Saturday with the first game starting at  2:00 p.m.
