HONOLULU - A group of middle school girls from across O'ahu are pushing for gender equality.

They took their message to busy South Beretania Street near the State Capitol Friday morning.

The girls are part of the YWCA's Summit Youth Program. For the past week, they've been learning about leadership, advocacy and empowerment.

"To see all these women now, to see women running for president. It's just amazing to see we're getting out there, 13 we're doing something. And we're not getting shamed by men, sometimes that had happened back in the olden days," said Eyndiah Bradford of Ewa Beach. "So I feel empowered. We're trying to stand up and do something for ourselves."

If you're interested in signing your girl up for the YWCA's Youth Leadership Program, the next session begins this summer.
