Think of it as a report card for the police chief and Susan Ballard got good grades.

It's Chief Ballard's first review since being sworn in as leader of the Honolulu Police Department.

Chief Ballard said in the past chiefs were given a one page document with a single rating, but the process has changed to include public comments and suggestions.

"The Police Commission really tried their hardest to get comments and concerns from everybody in the community," she said. "A lot of the community members did have some recommendations and not necessarily specifically about me but about the department and maybe areas of concern that they may have."

Chief Ballard got "exceeds expectations" in five sections, and "meets expectations" in two others.

The full review will be available to the media and the public Thursday, and it'll include the comments from the public as well as HPD officers.
