The University of Hawaii men's basketball team fell to Long Beach State 68-66 in Thursday's Quarterfinal round of the Big West Conference Tournament at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
The Rainbow Warriors controlled the game early. There were no lead changes and the 49ers were able to lock-up a tie with Hawaii just once in the first half. UH was able to mount an 18 point lead at one point before the break, a half where they shot 44 percent from the field as a team.
Bows led 37-29 at halftime. But LBSU made a push in the second half and went ahead 65-64 with 2:33 left to play. That 49er lead was erased by a clutch layup by Zigmars Raimo to tie the game back at 66 with 15 seconds left to play. But the game-winner came with just 0.5 seconds on the clock courtesy a Jordan Roberts jumper.
Raimo led Hawaii in scoring with 14 points and ten rebounds. Eddie Stansberry and Brocke Stepteau each pitched in with 12 points.
With the win, Long Beach State, the five seed in the conference tournament, faces top-seeded UC Irvine in Friday's semifinal round. Hawaii's record falls to 18-13 overall.
