UPDATE 2/21 10:25 p.m.

A man suspected of shoplifting at WalMart in Mililani Wednesday was later shot and killed by police.

Honolulu Police Chief Susan Ballard reports he had a prior misdemeanor conviction and was wanted on a warrant for an escape charge.

This is the second fatal officer-involved shooting in less than a month.

Chief Ballard also reports that five or six shots were fired at the intersection of Lanikuhana Avenue and Anania Drive after the suspect drove his truck toward an officer.

Also, according to HPD the suspect died from bullet wounds to the chest. 

None of the officers were injured and they have all been placed on administrative leave. 

UPDATE 2/21 1:45 p.m.

On Thursday, a vehicle was stopped for an ongoing theft investigation when the suspect attempted to flee. The suspect hit the gas and collided into two police vehicles, nearly striking an on-duty police officer. 

In an attempts to stop the vehicle, the officers discharged their weapons, striking the suspect.

The suspect then continued to drive down the road before climbing the median and colliding with a tree before coming to a full stop.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Two of the passengers were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment due to the collision with the tree.

UPDATE 11:24 p.m.

Lanikuhana Avenue between Anania Drive and Kamehameha Highway is now back open and the roadways have been cleared. 

Honolulu Police confirm that they stopped a theft suspect at Anania Drive and Lanikuhana Avenue. 

The suspect rammed vehicles trying to get away, an officer opened fire and the car then hit a tree. 

The male driver of the vehicle was fatally shot.

Two passengers were transported in critical condition and it is unknown at this time how many officers fired shots.

One person is dead and two are injured in the officer-involved shooting in Mililani near Anania Drive and Lanikuhana Avenue, sources say.

HPD officers are at the scene of an officer-involved shooting in Mililani. 

The incident occurred around 5:50 p.m. at Anania Drive and Lanikuhana Avenue.

Lanikuhana Avenue is closed between Anania Drive and Kamehameha Highway to conduct a police investigation. The public is advised to seek an alternate route to get around and drive with caution in the area.
