HONOLULU - A bill in the state legislature aims to prevent Hawaii's governor and county mayors from holding a second job.

The purpose is to make sure those in office serve Hawaii's people full time and avoid potential conflicts of interest.

KITV4's partners at Civil Beat say Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell reported earning at least $200,000 from Territorial Savings Bank over two of the years he has been in office.

Caldwell makes more than $170,000 a year as Honolulu Mayor.

The bill is awaiting a second full house vote.
