University of Hawaii Wahine Basketball player Makenna Woodfolk has decided to put her basketball career on hold for family reasons, Rainbow Wahine Basketball Coach Laura Beeman announced today.

“My recent pregnancy has allowed me time to think about my status with the women’s basketball team,” Woodfolk said. “Unfortunately, I have decided to stop playing basketball and focus on my academic progress and taking care of myself physically and mentally during this pregnancy. I am sad to leave the program because my teammates and coaches are like family to me and I don’t want to let them down. I know the timing is not optimal, but I feel it is not in my best interest to continue playing. I appreciate my basketball ‘Ohana and all they have done to support me, especially with this difficult decision.”

Beeman met with Woodfolk earlier today to discuss her future and supports the decision.

“We wish Makenna all the best as she embarks on this new chapter in her life,” Beeman said. “This was a difficult decision for her but we will continue to support her and her progress towards graduation. Makenna will always be part of our basketball ‘Ohana and we wish her well.”

UH will take on UC Irvine this Thursday at the Stan Sheriff Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. HT.
