WAILUA, Hawaii - Kaua'i Police are now investigating two unattended deaths, after both a man and a woman's body were found dead along two beaches in Wailua Thursday.

Officials suspect the two deaths are connected.

Around 6 a.m. Thursday, a bystander discovered a woman's body unresponsive at Kitchens Beach in Wailua. Police responded and opened a homicide investigation, as evidence revealed she may have died from an assault.

The woman was identified as 26-year-old Tia Obrero of Koloa. She was reported missing around 3 a.m. Thursday morning.

Later Thursday morning, a multi-agency land-and sea-search was initiated for the Koloa man who was believed to be with Obrero when she was reported missing.

The man was found dead around 2 p.m. on the rocky shoreline behind Kaua'i Beach Resort in Wailua. He has been identified as 26-year-old Michael Blackstad.

Autopsies to determine the cause of death are pending. 

The investigation is ongoing.
