HONOLULU - A new statue is now dedicated to late Hawaii U.S. Congresswoman Patsy Mink.

Mink co-authored the Title IX Amendment of the Higher Education Act. She was first elected to the Territorial House of Representatives in 1956 -- serving decades in politics. Mink was also the first woman of color to be elected to the U.S. House.

The bronze sculpture was created by Big Island artist Holly Young.

Thursday's news conference about the lawsuit filed against the Department of Education was held right in front it -- showing Mink's battle for women's equal rights continues to this day.
