It may soon take months, not years to make repairs and upgrades to Hawaii Schools.

The Department of Education revealed new digital solutions to improve facilities at a public workshop held by Transform Hawaii Government.

The group is dedicated to ensuring access to information and data on demand.

"Here in Hawaii the U.S. Postal Service has been using a system like this, job order contracting, to get all their facilities work done. It's not a foreign concept. It is new to the Hawaii State government. We're excited to bring that on board. It's a process, it's taken some time to get it established but once we do have that established and in place, we're going to streamline that," Hawaii Department of Education Assistant Superintendent Dann Carlson said.

According to Carlson, job order contracting can take months off projects, like the cooling classrooms initiative.
