WAIKIKI - Striking Local 5 union members assemble for a candlelight vigil Sunday night. Unite HERE Local 5 has been on strike since October 8. Sunday is Day 49.

The local union represents more than 2,700 employees in Hawaii currently on strike. The strike involves housekeeping, maintenance, food and beverage, front desks and more.

Local 5 is going back to the bargaining table on Monday, to await management's response to its most recent proposal. In preparation for negotiations, the union and its community allies and supporters have a candlelight vigil on the strike lines in Waikiki at 6 p.m. at Moana Surfrider.

The strike affects Sheraton Waikiki, The Royal Hawaiian, Westin Moana Surfrider, Sheraton Princess Kaiulani, and Sheraton Maui.
