Maui water treatment facility has a new disinfection process using salt and electricity
A new disinfection process eliminated chlorine gas.
LAHAINA, Hawaii - Maui County released photos taken at the Lahaina Water Treatment Facility last week from its demonstration of a new disinfection process.
It replacing chlorine gas with sodium hypochlorite made with salt and electricity. It's supposed to be safer, less expensive, and in line with all government water quality requirements.
The County's plan is to retrofit all surface water and ground water treatment facilities by the end of fiscal year 2019.
