KAPA’A, Hawaii - A woman visiting the Garden Isle from Iowa was airlifted from Ho’opi’i Falls in Kapa’a after sustaining a leg injury.

The 57-year-old reportedly fell Monday while hiking along the trail.

A family member and a bystander tended to the injured woman as she waited for first responders in the water near the rocks below the falls.

Firefighters from the Kaiakea fire station hiked into the trail and located the woman around 1:30 p.m.

The woman was then loaded into a Stokes litter and taken to a landing area at Kapahi Park where awaiting paramedics transported her to Wilcox Hospital for further treatment.

The extent of the woman’s injuries are unknown at this time.
