Police on Maui are keeping a close lookout for drivers smoking on the roadways during back-to-school traffic. A new county law went into effect July 1st,  making it illegal to smoke in a vehicle with a passenger under the age of 18 on board.
Police will be stationed at school zones during pick-up and drop-off times over the next two weeks, making sure people are complying with the new law.
The plan's for a much bigger police presence during the "Keiki Back to School" campaign,  which also includes watching for seat belt, cellphone use, and speeding.
