KONA, Hawaii - On Sunday, three people were charged with accomplice to first-degree murder for allegedly helping Justin Waiki hide from police. Waiki is accused of shooting and killing Hawaii Island police officer Bronson Kaliloa last Tuesday.  

Detectives charged 35-year-old Jorge Pagan-Torres, 29-year-old Krystle Ferreira, and 30-year-old Malia Lajala with one count each of accomplice to Attempted Murder in the First Degree, accomplice to Place to Keep – Revolver, Hindering Prosecution in the First Degree, and Criminal Conspiracy.

In addition, Pagan-Torres was charged with two counts of Probation Violation and Lajala was charged with two counts of Promoting Dangerous Drugs in the Third Degree. 

Waiki died on Friday during a shootout with police after three days on the run. Pagan-Torres, Ferreira, and Lajala were all arrested for hindering prosecution, following the incident on South Point Road in Kau during which wanted fugitive Waiki shot and injured a Hawaii Police Department Special Response Team Sergeant. 

There is no bail set and all three are in custody at the Kealakehe Police Station pending their initial court appearance on July 23, at the Kona District Court.
