Manoa, HAWAII - Dozens of people turned out to hear advice from Philadelphia-based dementia care consultant Rachael Wonderlin, who authored When Someone You Know is Living in a Dementia Care Community: Words to Say and Things to Do. Wonderlin draws on her Master's degree in Gerontology and her experiences working with older adults for over ten years.

She covered topics like how to make your home dementia-friendly, pitfalls to identify when searching for care, and how to successfully transition into a care community. Her focus is on giving caregivers the tools, support and knowledge they need.

Wonderlin's speech launches a new initiative for Caring Manoa. The "Expert in Residence” program brings experts in senior care to Hawaii to exchange knowledge with the local community.

Wonderlin will be with Caring Manoa until June 18 and will be available for private consultation. Caring Manoa is sponsoring two free sessions for professional caregivers on Wednesday, June 13 from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. and Saturday, June 16 from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Seats are limited to 30 people per session. RSVP at: or call (808) 779-8871.
