The Department of Transportation is reopening Highway 130 tomorrow from Malama Street to Kamaili Road for local traffic only.

That part of the highway, close to Leilani Estates has been closed due to cracks found along the roadway.

Metal plates will be placed over the cracks.

It will be open from 7a.m. to 6 p.m.

Crews will remain on scene to monitor the road conditions, as well as the sulfur dioxide emitted  from the cracks.

This is key since Highway 132 was closed to traffic at Pohoiki road Monday.

The Department of Transportation is also looking into the possibility of grading through a mile of lava along "Chain of Craters" road.

One idea is to use a lava bridge to maintain access to Highway 130.
