HANALEI, Hawaii - The National Weather Service says Waipa, just outside Hanalei on Kauai, recorded 49.69 inches of rain over a 24-hour period from April 14th to 15th.

If confirmed it would break the U.S. record of 43 inches set in Alvin, Texas in 1979.

Meanwhile we're getting our first look at satellite images of the flood damage on Kauai.

Our partners at Civil Beat tracked Google images between April 14th and 18th.

You can see the water color change and sand is pushed further out into the ocean.
