Don Quijote to buy Times Supermarkets
Times Supermarkets says it has agreed to sell its Hawaii supermarket operation to Don Quijote.
HONOLULU - Times Supermarkets says it has agreed to sell its Hawaii supermarket operation to Don Quijote. The sale will include all 17 Times Supermarket stores, five Big Save Markets, Shima's Supermarket and Fujioka's Wine Times.
QSI, Inc. is a Hawaii-based company and operator of Times Supermarkets.
“This is a huge step for our business and will be good for our customers. Today we are combining two established kama’aina companies to create a powerful new brand in the local grocery industry” said John Quinn, President and CEO of QSI.
Times Supermarkets first opened its doors in 1949. In 2002, Times Supermarkets was bought by QSI. In 2004, QSI acquired Fujioka's Wine Merchants. In 2009, QSI, Inc. acquired Star Markets. In 2011, QSI acquired five Big Save Markets on Kauai.
Don Qujote plans to operate all retail locations and retain all of the 1,600 associates currently employed by QSI, Inc.
