HONOLULU - Diners Drive In in Waimalu closed on Dec. 31 after 53 years of serving local favorites.  Now, the contents of the eatery is now being auctioned.

Dave Brandt of Oahu Auctions said that customers seem to be in denial and still attempt to enter the establishment.

"One customer who has phoned in a lunch order by sheer habit each week over the years, was irritated when his calls went unanswered.  He finally came down to the restaurant and was in disbelief," said Brandt.

Alicia Brandt of Oahu Auctions said people are wanting to buy recipes.

The current owner, Anna Nakamura, bought the business from her brother in 2004.

Multiple commercial ranges, ovens, refrigerators, freezers, and deli prep stations, sinks and work tables will be among the auction items. An ice machine, meat slicer, POS system and video security monitoring system will also be part of the auction, along with an assortment of foodservice and catering equipment, including bakeware and cookware.

The auction is open to the public.  A three-day on-site preview of the auction items will take place January 10 through 12 from 10 a.m. to 6 p,m.  The auction will end Jan. 12, with the first auction item ending at 6 p,m.  All other details are at oahuauctions.com
