Maui ocean safety crews have reopened several beach parks in Kihei after a shark sighting at Kamaole Beach.

The Maui Fire Department says standup paddle boarders saw five hammerhead sharks circling their boards about 10 feet from shore.

Lifeguards cleared the water and closed Kamaole Beach Parks 1, 2, and 3, as well as Cove Park around 10:50 a.m. Thursday.

Lifeguards reopened the beach just before 1 p.m. after no further shark sightings.
