HONOLULU - A firearm missing from the Oahu Community Correctional Center has been recovered and a person of interest in the incident has been arrested.

At around 1 p.m. Wednesday, an Adult Corrections Officer's .38-caliber revolver was left unattended in a publicly accessible restroom at the OCCC main entrance.  When the corrections officer went back to retrieve it, the firearm was gone.

35-year-old Janelle Newcomb was seen in the area at the time of the incident and was considered a person of interest.  She was a pre-trial detainee who was released from OCCC after her case was dismissed in court.

The Department of Public Safety is investigating this incident.
