Hokule'a crew meets up with former Hawaii residents in Florida
At each stop throughout Florida, the voyaging canoe Hokule'a and her crew are greeted by former Hawaii residents, like the Matteos.
BRADENTON, Fla. - The Hawaiian flag flying in the gentle Florida breeze. Hokule'a continuing her voyage around the world now in Florida as she's making her way up the East Coast.
A busy day with all hands on deck to lift the mast back in place. The mast came down as they maneuvered bridges, something new for most of the crew.
They arrive here at Indian River Sunday night and it's been non-stop visits from boaters to the curious to former Hawaii residents.
Some come bearing gifts The Matteo family brought ti leaves to adorn the canoe. Hokule'a finds a little piece of Hawaii wherever they go.
The plan is for the canoe to leave bright and early Tuesday morning heading north on the Indian River where an even larger Hawaiian welcome is expected.
