DLNR Determines Man Bitten By Shark Off Puna Beach
KALAPANA, Hawaii - Warning sings are posted at Kehena Beach in Puna after Department of Land and Natural Resources determined it was indeed a shark that bit a man 100 yards off shore Tuesday.
An unidentified man suffered deep lacerations to his right foot around 11 a.m. Tuesday after swimming at Middle Bay. State officials said he was swimming in turbid waters when his swim fin was stripped from his foot. Bystanders used an emergency phone located at the top of the beach trail to call 911.
The man was taken by ambulance to the hospital for treatment. Warning signs will remain in place at Kehena Beach until at least noon Wednesday.
