Utah State Aggies romp Rainbow Warriors 51-31 putting Hawaii's bowl eligibility in jeopardy

LOGAN, Utah – The University of Hawai'i football team got off to a slow start and couldn't recover in a 51-31 loss to Utah State Saturday afternoon at Maverik Stadium. The Rainbow Warriors dropped to 4-5 overall and 1-3 in the Mountain West.

The Aggies (6-2, 4-1) stung the Warriors with a big-play passing game while stifling the Rainbow Warrior resurgent running game en route to their sixth straight win in the series.

The Aggies jumped all over UH with 17 straight points to start the game and led from wire-to-wire. UH cut the deficit to 17-10 late in the second quarter, but Utah State responded with 24 unanswered points, including three consecutive touchdowns to start the second half.

Logan Bonner passed for 361 yards and four touchdowns for the Aggies. Four of Utah State's passes went for 40 or more yards – all of them coming in just a little more than a half of action. UH ended the game surrendering season highs in points and yards (564).

After missing the last three games, Chevan Cordeiro returned as the UH's starting quarterback. Cordeiro finished 23-of-39 for 296 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. Both Dedrick Parson (115) and Calvin Turner Jr. (110) posted 100-yard receiving games while also each finding the end zone.

But after rushing for better than 200 yards in three of its last four games, UH finished with a season low 12 yards. UH also turned the ball over three times and surrendered five sacks.

Darius Muasau led the UH defense with a season-high 16 tackles, including 2.5 for loss as UH recorded a season-high 11 in the category. UH also got its third defensive touchdown in the last two games with Eugene Ford's 60-yard scoop-and-score in the fourth quarter.

The Warriors now return home for a nationally televised game versus San Diego State on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 5:00 p.m. HT. For the first time, UH will be able to welcome a full capacity home crowd at the Clarence T.C. Ching Complex.
